About the ArtistArthur Lazar was born and raised in New Mexico, and he completed an MFA at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. A photographer for over sixty years, Lazar was initially inspired by the photographs of Edward Weston and he has largely pursued landscape photography as his focus. Although he lives in the Chicago area, where he taught photography at Columbia College Chicago and Lake Forest College, Lazar has returned frequently to the Southwest to photograph the region's striking landscapes. His black-and-white photographs, taken in places like Taos, New Mexico, sensitively capture the light in the landscape, or find an almost abstract beauty in natural forms in close-up compositions.
