About the ArtistIn Nick Kline’s Stripes and Stripes series, seemingly abstract colors and forms relate back to the real world in a visceral way. Through extracting the patterns from sports shirts worn in news photographs of incidents of violence and tragedy, Kline creates formalist compositions that both reference the ‘objective’ photojournalistic image as well as the history and supposed universal appeal of abstract art.Nick Kline completed his MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art and his BFA from the University of the Arts. He has been a Professor of Photography/Visual Art at Rutgers University since 2001, and has exhibited his photographs in solo exhibitions at Momenta Art, Brooklyn, NY, Pittsburgh Filmmakers, Pittsburgh, PA, and Uno Art Space, in Stuttgart, Germany, among many others.
