About the ArtistCamilo Echavarría is interested in idealized representations of nature despite real adaptions to the land for human purposes. These pictures, depicting a region in Colombia where coffee beans are grown and processed, were exhibited at the 2017 Chicago Architecture Biennial alongside 19th century photos of coffee wet mills. The historic and contemporary images were interspersed with tropical patterned velvet drapery hung from the ceiling, causing reflection on the long-term effects of growing coffee crops on the luscious Andean Mountain landscape. Echavarría’s work is held in the collection of the Museo de Antioquia, Medellín, Colombia, among other collections.
