About the ArtistAbigail Reyes is a graphic designer, artist, and poet who uses video, installation, and text as acts of resistance. Her work interrogates p
atriarchy and power in relation to Latin American culture and popular media, often centering the role of language in shaping social attitudes. Before turning to visual art, Reyes studied to be a secretary. Her experience in such a rigid, repetitive profession—particularly one almost exclusively associated with women—informs the way she explores feminist themes. Although Reyes speaks to universal issues, her practice at its core is a response to, and an examination of, her own memories. “It is difficult for me to address issues that have not affected me in some way,” she said. “The deeply personal is both political, social, and almost inevitably collective.”

Abigail Reyes was awarded the Clarice Oliveira Tavares Residency at the Swiss Institute, New York in 2019. She was one of six artists representing El Salvador in the 2016 Central American Biennial. Her work has been featured in exhibitions at Liliana Bloch Gallery, Dallas; Museum of Contemporary Art and Design, Costa Rica; Museum of Art of El Salvador; Norton Museum of Art, Florida; and various others.
