About the ArtistElizabeth Bick’s photography is deeply influenced by her training in both classical and modern dance. She captures transient and happenstance moments on the street, portraying people as if they are actors in a theater with an urban façade appearing as the backdrop or stage. In some instances, she carefully restages and photographs a moment she once observed. In others, she captures moments as they happen. Altogether, the images show a beauty and drama in the mundane exchanges and every day moments in public spaces. Bick completed her MFA in Photography from Yale University. Her work has been featured in exhibitions at the Norton Museum of Art, the Ogden Museum of Art, Fraenkel Gallery, Houston Center for Photography, The Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art, and the University of Texas Visual Arts Center. She received the Pollock-Krasner Foundation award, a Houston Center for Photography Fellowship, a Joan Mitchell Foundation grant, and The Rudin Prize. She is a professor of photography at the College of Charleston.
