About the ArtistJerry Burchard was born and raised in Rochester, New York. He received his BFA at the California School of Fine Arts in 1960, at the suggestion of Minor White. He began teaching in 1966 and was chairman of the photography department from 1968 to 1971 at what is now the San Francisco Art Institute. Burchard has been featured in exhibitions at the Museum of Modern Art, the Smithsonian Institution, and the International Center of Photography. His work is in the collections of these institutions, as well as in the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Getty Museum, and the Art Institute of Chicago.
