About the ArtistA photographer since his early 20s, George Eastman is best known for founding the Eastman Kodak Company in 1882, now known as Kodak. Eastman worked to create an easy-to-use camera, and because of his innovations, photography became accessible to the public. The motion picture industry also began to thrive thanks to the company’s development of a flexible film.The George Eastman Museum in Rochester was founded in his name in 1947 as the world’s first photography museum and holds a significant collection of Eastman’s work. He has exhibited at The Smithsonian Institution and the International Center of Photography, and his work is in the collections of the Library of Congress and the Museum of Modern Art, among many others.
