About the ArtistPhilip-Lorca diCorcia's photographs are dramatic witnesses to the spontaneity and reality of urban public spaces. His images, many taken on busy streets in cities throughout the world, use complicated cinematic lighting effects to record seemingly spontaneous, sometimes eerie moments of self-absorption or connection between people. In New York, for example, diCorcia captures the intimacy of a couple's gaze on a busy street corner, illustrating his interest in revealing, in his own words, "that which was never really hidden, but rarely is noticed."

Philip-Lorca diCorcia's work has been widely collected and included in exhibitions at Artists Space, New York; Burden Gallery, Aperture Foundation, New York; Museum of Modern Art, New York; Netherlands Photo Institute, Rotterdam; and Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, among many other venues. Born in 1953 in Hartford, Connecticut, diCorcia earned his BA (1975) and Post Graduate Certificate (1976) from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and an MFA from Yale University (1979).
