About the ArtistSandra Newbury’s primary subject matter is landscape, whether industrial, urban, or pastoral. She uses camera movement and darkroom manipulation to blur her photographs, creating a tension between literal representation and near abstraction, sometimes furthered by the addition of paint. Within this liminal space, Newbury explores the mystery of nature as it relates to industry and mass production.Sandra Newbury holds a BA from Wesleyan University (1986). In 1997, Wesleyan’s Davison Art Collection held her solo exhibition Industrials, Pastorals, The Elements. Her work is in the permanent collection of Zilkha Gallery at Wesleyan.
