About the ArtistBorn in Newark, New Jersey, Scott Rankin attended the Tyler School of Art at Temple University, Philadelphia, earning a BA in 1976, and he went on to complete an MFA at the University of California, Los Angeles in 1980. In 1985, he was included along with nineteen other photographers in the 20/20 portfolio, published by UCLA to celebrate twenty years of its MFA photography program, which is held in Museum of Contemporary Photography’s collection. While continuing to work in photography, starting in 1979 Rankin began to use video as his primary medium. Since then, his work has often explored subjective experience in interpersonal and inter-cultural exchanges. He has been a professor of art at Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois since 1994.
