About the ArtistSince graduating from Marylhurst University in 1992 under the direction of Christopher Rauschenberg and Rich Rollins, Stearns completed three significant bodies of work: His Westside Light Rail Series, the Portland Grid Project I, and the Portland Aerial Tram. All of Stearns' work is artist-generated, and he seemed to be drawn to iconic construction projects that are, or will become historically significant for the City of Portland and the State of Oregon. Two transportation systems of note, The Westside Light Rail and the Portland Aerial Tram, in Stearns' view, will define Portland and the State of Oregon as one of the most progressive regions of the country.
