About the ArtistArt is not enough! Not Enough! is a collaborative research project conducted by producer Davide Quadrio, filmmaker and producer Lothar Spree, and production editors Zhu Xiaowen and Xu Jie, that examines the changing landscape of Shanghai’s art scene. Davide Quadrio, Lothar Spree, and Zhu Xiaowen designed the concept of the project, and together Quadrio and Xu Jie arranged interviews with forty Shanghai-based artists. The questions, the setting, and the dialogue were prepared in a deliberate way to extract honest and direct answers that reflect each artist’s respective background, experiences, assumptions, and perceptions working within the evolving art community of Shanghai. The resulting multimedia installation presents a cross-section of the Shanghai art scene from the perspective of the innovating forces and creators of the rapidly expanding creative industry in China’s largest city.
