In The Big Day, held in the MoCP collection, Almond transforms a photograph of his parents' wedding into more than just a documentation of a personal milestone. Darren Almond received his BA In Fine Arts from Winchester School of Art in 1993. He had his first solo exhibition in London in 1995. His ongoing series of landscape photographs, Fullmoon, began in 1998. The photographs are taken with extended exposure times of fifteen minutes or longer allowing them to capture the temporal and the inevitable passage of time simultaneously. His films and large-scale installations deal with aspects of transportation and movement. For his piece Meantime (2000), Almond redesigned a shipping container as a functional digital clock and documented it as it travelled across the Atlantic. Almond was shortlisted for the Turner Prize in 2005 and participated in the 2003 Venice Biennale. His work is in the collections of Museum of Modern Art, New York; Tate Gallery, London; Centre national des arts plastiques, Paris; amongst others.
