Friges, AprilAmerican, b.1981

The work in April Friges’ series Spectator aligns itself between photography and sculpture. Using large-scale black-and-white silver gelatin photograms, the artist physically manipulates the paper to produce sculptural images that investigate photography’s history as a medium.

Her work has been shown in galleries and museums including LAXART, Los Angeles, CA (2010); Autonomie, Los Angeles, CA (2011); The Spencer Museum of Art, Lawrence, KS (2012); The Printed Matter, New York, NY (2013); MOCAD, Detroit, MI (2013); Sculpture X, Columbus, OH (2013); ForYourArt, Los Angeles, CA (2014); 20 Jay St, Brooklyn, NY, (2014); Filter Space, Chicago, Ill (2015); Fine Art Complex 1011, Tempe, AZ (2016).
