BiographyJody Ake’s striking series of rare and delicate ambrotypes were featured in the 2015 Museum of Contemporary Photography exhibition, Dandy Lion: (Re) Articulating Black Masculine Identity. A direct relation to the daguerreotype, the ambrotype is a very difficult and rare method of producing images in modern times. Ake’s ambrotypes of Black men in the twenty-first century powerfully use portraiture to portray self-actualization and identity.
