Asztalos, Courtney and Hicks, Michael W.
Courtney Asztalos and Michael Hicks collaborated as casting directors, location scouts, and photographers for their book The Glittering Eye. The book takes place on a cruise ship and was published by Kris Graves Projects in 2020. Photographs from the book are in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, the British Library, the Getty Center, the Guggenheim Museum, and Harvard University, among other institutions.
Courtney Asztalos received her MFA in Art Photography from Syracuse University. Her work is in the collections of many universities, such as the UCLA Arts Library. She has photographed for the New York Times and The Wire. She has been included in exhibitions at the Meinblau, Berlin, Germany (2016); PØST, Los Angeles, CA (2015); Crisp-Ellert Museum, St. Augustine, FL (2014); and the Multimedia Museum, Moscow, Russia (2014); and others. She was a runner up for the 2017 MoCP Snider Prize.
Michael W. Hicks completed his MFA in Photography from Syracuse University in 2018. He is the recipient of numerous awards and has held artist talks at Syracuse University, Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute, Maine College of Art, and International Center of Photography. His work has been featured in exhibitions at SFO Museum, San Francisco; Leica Gallery, Washington, DC; Photographic Center Northwest, Seattle; and Haubrok Foundation, Berlin; among other institutions. HIs work is held in the collections of the Guggenheim Museum Library, New York; High Museum, Atlanta; and Syracuse University Special Collections.
