BiographyLee Rae Walsh creates images and poems that ponder the smallness of humanity in the expansive natural world. The artist works in-camera to achieve the look of using post-production color filters by finding places in nature imposed with heavily saturated, manmade light sources, such as this image of a snowy field under an orange and red neon sign. The photographs are installed without frames, and some are printed on porous Japanese rice paper, enhancing the materiality of the print and elevating the vibrancy of their palette. Walsh completed their BFA from the University of North Florida (2012) and their MFA from Columbia College Chicago (2016). They are a runner-up for the 2016 Snider Prize.
